Dampier Strait short loop
6–7
hours
Friwen Wall, Yenbuba jetty, Mansuar beach. The most reliable for calm water and easy swimming — what we suggest if you are unsure about open-sea boat rides.
Day trips
A single-day charter from Waisai harbour to two or three nearby spots, back the same evening. Six to nine hours on the water, on a speedboat carrying six to twelve people.
Check a DateA Raja Ampat day trip boat runs as a single-day charter from Waisai harbour on Waigeo Island, taking a small group to two or three nearby spots and returning the same evening.
Routes
Door-to-door from Waisai harbour, assuming reasonable sea conditions. Departure times shift with the tide, so treat these as planning figures rather than a timetable.

hours
Friwen Wall, Yenbuba jetty, Mansuar beach. The most reliable for calm water and easy swimming — what we suggest if you are unsure about open-sea boat rides.
7–8
hours
Arborek, Sawandarek, the Manta Sandy area. Depends entirely on conditions at the cleaning station — sightings are common roughly December to April, never guaranteed.
9–11
hours
The star-lagoon viewpoint, a reef stop, a beach lunch. A long open-water crossing and a full, tiring day; rough afternoon swell can cut it short for safety.
You will not reach the southern Misool lagoons or the Wayag pinnacles in a single day from Waisai. Those need an overnight or a liveaboard, and we would rather say so now than at the jetty.
Within reach
Waisai is the gateway to the Dampier Strait, and the closest world-class sites sit within a 30 to 90 minute boat ride. That proximity is what makes a day trip viable at all.
Almost all Dampier Strait day trips leave from Waisai, the regional capital on Waigeo. You reach it by public ferry or speedboat from Sorong — roughly a two-hour crossing on the public ferry.
Waisai harbour is the main pickup for chartered speedboats. If you are staying at a Waigeo homestay around Yenwaupnor or Saporkren, a boat can collect you from the beach in front of it, which usually saves time over backtracking to the harbour.
Leaving direct from Sorong is possible but rarely worth it for a single day — the crossing alone burns two hours each way. Confirm your pickup point when you book so the fuel estimate and start time are set correctly.
Cost
Priced as a per-boat day rate you split across your group, plus a few fixed extras. Indicative as of June 2026, and it moves with fuel and season.
Ask for price
per boat
Varies by route distance and boat size. Covers boat, fuel, skipper and basic snorkel gear.
IDR 1jt
per person
Around USD 62, valid for the whole calendar year. Checked on the water and non-negotiable — budget for it separately from the boat rate.
IDR 75–150rb
per person
Usually arranged through a village homestay.
IDR 350rb
per day
Included on some routes. Recommended for the manta and Piaynemo runs.
Because the boat cost is fixed rather than charged per seat, six people on one boat is far better value per head than two. Send your group size and we will quote the boat, then show you the split.
Honestly, it depends on your time. You will see genuinely first-rate coral on even the short loop — but Raja Ampat rewards longer stays, and we would rather you knew that before booking.
A day trip or two from Waisai makes sense.
A combined multi-route package beats stacking separate day charters.
